Victor Hugo’s trips to Spain (both as a child and as an adult) and the Spanish books he read (whether in Spanish or in translation) affected him deeply. This study points out and analyzes the traces they left in his poetry, demonstrating Spain’s paramount importance in Hugo’s poetic universe.
