These proceeding papers take as a starting point Jean Bessière’s works on literary theory and comparative literature. They then redefine different paradigms in the domain of literary studies, more precisely in comparative literature. They question issues like the findings of neo-rhetoric or the rereading of literature under the sign of communication. The papers then focus on the hypothesis of a dual communication in literature, the prevalence of silence in 20th century literature, the power of whiteness from Baudelaire onwards, the connection between allegory and symbol in French symbolist poetry or the connection between science fiction and heroic epic.
