LITTÉRATURES, POÉTIQUES, MONDES. LA LITTÉRATURE COMPARÉE ET SES SENTIERS QUI BIFURQUENT

This volume offers an overview of Comparative Literature, in three parts: I. Poetics, World, Otherness, Subjectivity, History, Rhetoric. II. On Writers, New Worlds, New Poetics. III. Comparative Literature, the Intercultural, Space, « World Literature ». The first section plays on the modalities of sameness and otherness and provides references to these and also to hospitality, to the developing world, to Romantic egology and the concepts that are central to criticism. In the second section, the differences of new literatures and new poetics are explored, as is the recognition of the commonplace that underpins them. In the third part, the broad reaches of Comparative Literature today (the intercultural, globalisation, « World Literature », postcolonial) are evoked : these too suppose the aforementioned double modality. The Part 4 discusses perpectives of Jean Bessière’s criticism.

Micéala Symington, Professeur de Littérature comparée et d’études anglaises à l’Université de La Rochelle, formée à l’Université d’Oxford, docteure de l’Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, a publié Écrire le tableau. L’approche poétique de la critique d’art à l’époque symboliste, Peter Lang, 2006. Parmi ses récents ouvrages : Actualité et inactualité de la notion de postcolonial (dir. avec Jean Bessière et Joanny Moulin), Champion, 2013, La migration européenne aux Amériques. Pour un dialogue entre histoire et littérature (dir. avec D. Poton et L. Vidal), Presses universitaires de Rennes, 2012. Elle est membre du conseil exécutif de l’Association internationale de Littérature comparée.
