This is a study of the illustrations of the work of Crébillon fils produced from 1735-1973 – a total of 51 illustrated editions and 400+ vignettes. Their overall pictorial bent was influenced by the libertine iconographic tradition as well as the theatricality and reflexivity that characterize the author’s texts.
