ENTRE LA RENAISSANCE ET LES LUMIÈRES, LE THEOPHRASTUS REDIVIVUS (1659)

 The Theophrastus redivivus (1659), a clandestine and anonymous treatise, shows that atheism existed in the 17th century. It denies the existence of gods (treatise I), the world’s creation (II) and the soul’s immortality (IV). It also denounces religions as fake (III) and promotes a morality based on nature (VI).
