LA FAMILLE DE GERMANDRE

After the Revolution, in a context where individual worth trumps birth, two branches of an aristocratic family (one of which has contracted a misalliance with the peasantry) are vying for an inheritance. The novel ultimately manages to conciliate aristocratic tradition and the promise of republican regeneration.
