Thomas Becon’s life (1512-1567) was somewhat adventurous but the man, reformer, teacher, and preacher, was at home with words. Most of his works were published by the Parker Society. A mere look at the style of the titles of some of his treatises and dialogues shows his liking for a well rounded phrase. His major work, A New Catechism, testifies to his mastery both of the dialogue as a genre and rhetoric in his personal exposition of the doctrine of the English Church.
