Starting around 1760 or 1770, the “diary” becomes the recipient of the individual’s cares and questions – about family life, friendship, health, etc. Its main focus is time, which it helps contain and master. But this is also the beginning of the era of secrecy, and the diary becomes a new version of the heart of hearts.
