Républicanisme moderne et libéralisme critique - Modern Republicanism and Critical Liberalism. Sous la direction de Béla Kapossy et Pascal Bridel
Jean-Charles-Léonard Simonde de Sismondi (1773-1842), a Genevan economist and historian of Tuscan descent, is currently being rediscovered by scholars from a variety of disciplines : political economy, intellectual history, literature, and historiography. The chapters of this volume, first presented at an international conference in Neuchâtel in 2010, aim to contribute to this renewal by highlighting the important role Sismondi played in the vast debates on liberalism and republicanism at the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth century. Together, they bring to light the originality of Sismondi’s views on topics as diverse as monetary theory, international trade, liberal protestantism and popular sovereignty.
